A. Governor’s Report (Mune Craig)

1. NCWNP Bd. Retreat, 2006 Goals (Mune Craig)

• Met in January 2006 in Monterey , CA .

• Set goals for 2006

2. 2006 Golf Tournament (Higashi)

• Monday, Oct 2, 2006 – Harding Park Municipal Course (Site of the 2005 US Open) in SF

• Looking for sponsors.

• $200 Early Bird Registration by July 1, 2006, $250 After July 1, 2006

3. Washington , DC Leadership Program (John Hayashi)

• Selected two people to attend, one alternate

• Selection criteria: community service, past JACL involvement and future potential involvement with JACL.

• Participants:

• Tamone Norimoto (SJ Chapter) – He’s a member of the SJ Chapter, an active citizen of Japan Town and a member of the Japan Town Congress.  He graduated from UCLA and works for Addecco.

• Tamera Doi (SF) – She’s a board member of the SF chapter.  President of First Step, a leadership coaching company and she is an investment manager for Morgan Stanley. 

• Alternate:

• David Unroe (Placer) – He graduated from CSU Long Beach and is employed with California Teacher Association.  He’s been involved with Tomodachi Gakko for the past 10 years.  He’s an active member of the Placer Buddhist Church .

4. District Executive Board Vacancy (Mune Craig)

• Bill Hinkle resigned from executive board.  As a result, the district is looking for a replacement to finish his term through November.

5. National Bd. Mtg Report/National Finances ( Thaya Mune Craig /Mark Kobayashi)

• See report.

• Currently in audit for 2004/2005. 

• National board and National Council (7 districts) reviews, provides feedback, new program proposals and establishment of new budget at the National Convention.

6.   Future 1st Quarterly DC Mtg Schedule ( Kim Nakahara )

• Should we change because of NFL Superbowl?

7.   District Website

• Website hosting is up for renewal, should we renew it?  If so, how long?

B. Treasurer’s Report (Okimoto)

1. Report on District Finances

• See report.

• Budgeted Vs Actual 2005

• Revenue - $79,830 Vs. $101,988

• Disbursements – $79,830 Vs $70,435

• 2005 Return to Investments - $31,552

2. Insurance Invoices from National

• District decided that average membership enrollment for the previous calendar year will be used to calculate insurance assessments.  Also, round up for fractions above .50. 

 

VIII. HOST CHAPTER PROGRAM ( Florin JACL )

Florin JACL Youth Annie Noguchi, Tado and Jane presented a slide show that features the youth’s involvement in the community over the past three years.

IX. Membership

A. Membership Committee (M. Yoshino/E.Teruya)

• 2005 has lowest attrition rate in a decade.

• Many chapters increased membership in 2005.

• Renew district membership drive contest: For every two new memberships, you get one gift membership that you can give to someone.  The deadline will be in Dec. 15, 2006.

• A new membership brochure has been created and will be distributed electronically.

• Asked district JACL to be a member of the oversight committee.

• District voted to participate.

• Abalone Connection-Convergence 2006 (Hashimoto)

C. Education Committee (Greg Marutani/ John Hayashi)

1. CCLPEP Tri-District Grant Proposal

• Greg would like to prepare a grant proposal to request funds from CCLPEP grant to put on workshops at the 2007 Tri-District meeting to showcase the JACL programs and the benefits of those programs. 

• The grant requires that the tri-district conference must be in California , but the conference is usually held in Reno .

• The district voted and allowed Greg to only apply for grant.  The Tri-District location has not been determined. 

D. Civil Rights/Public Affairs (Goral/Teruya)

1. Creation of Human Rights Network (Ken Nakamura/San Jose JACL sakenn@sarc.org)
