  • Nisei High School Diploma Project – If you know of any Nisei that were in high school during World War II and did not receive a diploma because of the incarceration in the concentration camps, they are eligible to receive an honorary high school diploma.  For more information visit www.canisei.org.
  • JACL Junior Olympics – In the past this has been JACL’s most successful event attracting over 18,000 participants for a track and field competition.  But, because of declining attendance in recent years it may be discontinued unless new leadership can be found.  If you are interested in volunteering for a leadership position for this event, please contact District Governor Thaya Mune Craig ThayaJoyce@sbcglobal.net.
  • JACL Youth Conference – June 24-26th in Salt Lake City
  • National District Membership Drive – JACL Credit Union has donated a 4 – day Carnival Cruise from Long Beach, CA to Mexico for 2 including airfare to and from So. Cal .  Any JACL member who gifts or refers a new member to join JACL is automatically entered.  The new member’s name is also entered.  All applications must be sent to National Headquarters and postmarked no later than June 30, 2005.  For more information contact Kevin Nakano at (916) 628 – 1044 or kevin@nakanorealty.com.  
  • District Membership Drive – Get 2, Get 1 Free.  For every two new memberships your chapter recruits, the district will pay for one gift membership.  Contest is from Jan. 1 – Dec. 31, 2005.  For more information about membership drive contact Kevin Nakano at (916) 628 – 1044 or kevin@nakanorealty.com.  Also, district is looking for volunteers for a membership committee.
  • District Dinner & Fundraiser – Sunday, April 2, 2005 at the Blackhawk Museum in Danville , CA .  Each chapter is being asked to solicit items for the silent auction, sponsors, and ads/greetings for printed programs. 
    • Auction items must be submitted by March 1, 2005. 
    • Sponsor submissions due by Feb. 28, 2005.
    • Ads/Greetings due by Feb. 28, 2005.
  • Research Grants Available – Research grants available for research related to Japan towns.  Applications due by March 1, 2005.  For more information contact District Governor Thaya Mune Craig ThayaJoyce@sbcglobal.net.
  • Pacific Citizen Update - $28K in the black in 2004.  They are looking for full-time reporter/writer, part-time production assistant, new columnist, and new youth columnist.  A goal for 2005 is to build a PC website.  They are soliciting bids for website design.  http://www.jacl.org/pacificcitizen.html
  • Albertsons Community Partnership Program – If you have an Albertson’s savings card and you don’t have it connected to a non-profit (503c) organization, you can have Florin JACL be the recipient of funds from Albertsons for youth programs every time you use your Albertson’s savings card. 
  • State of CA Conf. on the Internment of Japanese Americans – June 2-4th at Miyako Hotel in SF.  For more information call (415) 567-5505.

  • National JACL Board Meeting – March 19th – 20th in San Francisco .
  • Quarter 2 Disctrict Meeting – May 1, 2005 at Monterey .  Youth event also on the same day in Monterey
