2015-07-01 - Bishop’s Back Alley Bowl Excludes Manzanar Pilgrims, Asian and Muslim Americans Call for Public Apology, Community Support
Bigotry raised its ugly head in Bishop, California as Back Alley Bowl and Grill excluded a group of 15 Asian and Muslim Americans from bowling during open hours while white customers bowled on April 25th during the annual Manzanar Pilgrimage.
The Florin Manzanar Pilgrimage Committee complained and asked for a month for Back Alley to meet (letter linked). After they finally agreed, they backed out June 9th and they disappointingly sent an inaccurate and insulting letter.
The Committee sent a July 1st letter pressing Back Alley Bowl to honor its commitment to meet (letter linked).
The Florin Manzanar Pilgrimage Committee is expanding its campaign calling for a public apology, a public commitment to current anti-discrimination laws, and a public welcome to diverse customers, including the Florin Manzanar Pilgrimage.
70 long years after the government shut down the Manzanar WWII concentration camp for Japanese Americans, this should not still be happening to diverse Americans today.
